Joy is defined by the dictionary as ‘the emotion of great delight or happiness caused by something exceptionally good or satisfying.’
During my year of sickness, I gleaned 5 tips from a friend of mine.
She taught me and encouraged me to find a way to see light in a very dark time.
Doing these steps did not always result in a warm, fuzzy feeling, BUT it did help foster a deeper joy.
The knowledge that life will be ok even if it doesn’t seem it will be.
1. Nurture an eternal perspective.
Regardless of your spiritual beliefs, a life lived without hope of a future is pretty bleak.
Start by figuring out what your eternal perspective is and then nurture it.
Personally I do this by reading the Bible and praying. It gives me peace and joy to hope in a life Designed by God.
2. Laugh everyday.
Yep. Simple, but true. This will increase joy and has also been proven to have positive health benefits.
My family and I like to watch funny movies, tell jokes and will quite often watch America’s Funniest Videos (tv show) together.
3. Look forward to something every week.
Schedule fun stuff! It doesn’t always have to cost money either.
It could be a movie, dinner with your spouse, coffee with a friend and even your favorite tv show.
4. Develop a hobby
What are your interests? Scrapbooking, crafting, baking, sewing, organizing, writing, etc…
The point is, take the time for you to actually do this. Something for you.
5. Take care of your physical body.
We are all aware of the health benefits of this for our bodies, but there are also known mood lifter benefits.
Exercising releases the ‘happy’ endorphins, drinking water and eating good foods increase energy and aid in sleeping better.
Pick just one area to improve and focus on. Your emotional health will thank you.
~ I hope you find some joy in your life too, regardless of your circumstances.
~ If you are going through a particularly hard time right now, leave a comment or email me.
I would be honored to pray for you!
Looking forward to our next visit,
