Allergy and Sinus Relief and Prevention {natural solutions}

This is the time of year most of us suffer with allergies and increased asthma.  For years I struggled with seasonal allergies.  I can even remember struggling as a kid! Then it seem to morph into a year round problem.  Before I knew it I was taking prescription allergy meds daily and fighting sinus infections at least twice a year.  My head felt stuffy most of the time and I got headaches frequently.  So 3 years ago, I decided it was time to find a solution.  I wanted to take action to prevent the need for medication daily.

Here is what I learned… Allergy and even asthma symptoms can be stirred by not only environment contaminants {pollen, cotton, chemical cleaners, etc} but by an unhealthy immune system.

Here is what I do ::

1. Take a quality multi-vitamin

This is a huge step in boosting your immune system.  Most of us are deficient in the right amount of minerals and nutrients our body needs.  I take this multi-vitamin everyday and it has helped tremendously in how I feel and improving my immune system.

2.  Take an immune supporting supplement

Taking this has saved me SO much money in doctor bills and prescription medications!  It truly helps me to live a prevention life style.   I recommend taking NutriferonA Shaklee exclusive, Nutriferon is a patented, clinically proven blend of immune-strengthening plant extracts. When used daily, it increases the production of your body’s natural interferon, a critical activator of the immune system. Nutriferon works at the cellular level, by rapidly activating your immune system’s defenses.  I also take a double dose if I feel something coming on and it attacks it quickly.  I usually feel totally fine by the next morning!

3.  Take vitamin C

Your body is capable of many things, but it can’t make or store vitamin C. I take the Shaklee Sustained Release Vita-C because it offers sustained-release protection hour after hour. This brand has a unique all-natural sustained formula  that slowly releases Vitamin C into your blood stream over a 5-hour period.

4. Take a probiotic

Did you know that scientists now believe 70% of the immune system is located in the gut?  This is a good place to start to strengthen our immune system against allergic reactions.  There appears to be a surprising correlation between symptoms of upper respiratory congestion and sinus discomfort to poor elimination in the lower intestines. The best way to keep a healthy digestive system is to clean out toxins. I take Optiflora probiotic.

5.  Use natural cleaning products

Cleaning products not only irritate the skin, but their odors can aggravate upper respiratory problems.  Toxic cleaners are a huge problem for allergies and asthma.  By switching out to natural ones, you can totally eliminate the problem!  I use this kit for my whole house and this safe disinfectant.

I have followed this plan for 3 years now and since I started I am off all allergy medication and I have not had a sinus infection.  I found that it was much more effective to spend the money on the proper supplements to arm my body with the right minerals for prevention.  And it totally works!  I have saved so much money and time avoiding the doctor’s office and nursing headaches.

A seasonal attack is pretty rare for me know but if I do have a flare-up I keep 2 things on hand to find relief naturally.

1.  Alfalfa

It’s a natural anti-histamine.  Alfalfa will reduce and prevent the itchy, sneezy and coughing that comes with allergies.

2. Garlic

It is traditionally used for its  anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-viral and anti-inflammatory properties. You can also take it to help with colds, flu, and sinus infections.  I like this one because I know it is all natural and does not have the garlic smell.

This is the plan that WORKS for me!  It allows me to stay off prescription medication and feel icky and tired from allergy side effects.
