Naturally Wash and Prepare Fruit and Veggies

I grocery shop weekly and then take an hour to wash and chop the fruit and veggies so it simplifies my week of meals and snacks.  I like to really load up on the fresh stuff.  For a list of the Clean 15 and Dirty Dozen go here.

When I get home from the store, this is my best time to start washing and chopping.  You can buy veggie wash at the store, but be sure to read your labels!  Some have added chemicals and this totally defeats the purpose.  I use this natural cleaner to wash mine in because I know that it is organic (made with corn and coconut oil) and it is super inexpensive.  I save so much money with this cleaner because of it’s MANY uses.

Here is how I wash mine:

natural fruit and veggie wash

First wash your sink.

Next fill up with cool water and squirt a 1/4 tsp of natural cleaner.

Let it soak for 5 min.

Drain, rinse and dry.

Since purposing to add more real fruit and veggies in our diet, I have found a great little tweak in our snacking that helps a ton with getting my kids (um…and hubby) to eat more fresh stuff.

Every afternoon after school and up until dinner, I set out a plate of cut up fruit and veggies.  Trust me.  This works.

If you cut it up, they will eat it!

They can easily grab a piece to munch on, especially when I am cooking dinner.

Another fruit trick is to make protein smoothees and load ‘em up with fruit.  After chopping some, I freeze them to easily throw in the smoothees.  I can even sneak spinach in and they can’t tell.  shhhhh….

We also love fries here.  So we have homemade carrot and potato fries here several nights a week with dinner. So much more healthy than drive through or frozen.  And it will save you money too!

How to Clean Wood Floors Safely

I think wood floors are beautiful!  We have laminate and I think it’s a great look for less.  In my cleaning business, however, one of the most asked questions I got (besides how to clean the shower) was how do I clean my wood floors safely and keep them shiny without residue?  I had many a client who was spending way too much money on product and yet they were still not satisfied.

Here is what I do ::

1.  Sweep or vacuum to get rid of the daily living evidence.

2.  For daily [ish] upkeep, I use this microfiber mop.

It’s the O’Cedar from Target.  Rubbermaid makes one too.

Either is fine, but what you are looking for is the removable microfiber cloth and the refillable spray bottle.

This thing is so worth the $20!

It is easy to use (even my kids can), safe for your floors and super quick for spot cleaning.

3.  For deep cleaning, on your hands and knees is really the best way to get it super clean.

Do as often as you can or make the kids.  lol

I use a microfiber cloth and a spray bottle.

Use water sparingly!

4.  Now, the part I know you are dying to know!

What the heck do I use in the spray bottle??

There are so many as I shared earlier.  Believe me after 10 years as a house cleaning business owner and 16 years mom experience, I have tried MANY products.  Special order ones (expensive), Swiffer (BIG mistake), vinegar (smelly and doesn’t restore the wood floor shine) and just plain hot water (hard to clean dirt + again….does not restore the wood floor shine).

I use Shaklee’s Basic H organic cleaning concentrate.

I switched over 2 years ago and it is hands down the best thing I have ever used on floors.

Take a look at what it can do for your floors.

Basic H is a cleaning concentrate.  I use the all-purpose formula on floors.

It cleans the grime and makes the wood totally shine.

Plus it’s natural and safe.  Safe for your babies crawling on the floor, children and pets.

Did I mention it is only 3 pennies to make a bottle of this stuff?

Now it’s your turn to get cleaning your floors!

Do you have wood floors?  Laminate?  Tile?

How often do you clean your floors?

How to Clean the Shower

The shower in my 5th wheel needed a good cleaning!  The whole thing was so yucky dirty when we bought it.  Now you all know that I like to clean naturally.  I broke up with chemical cleaners almost 2 years ago and I’m not going back.

So I sprayed down the shower with my Basic H2 organic concentrate in the degreaser formula and let it sit for about 10 min.  After that I sprayed and scrubbed with a sponge and the gunk came right off.  Easy!  I didn’t even need to turn on the fan because there are NO fumes with this stuff.

See how it shines? I didn’t even need to turn on the fan because there are NO fumes with this stuff.  No headaches and it’s totally safe for my kids to be around when I clean.  No need to do it when they are at school or asleep.

Plus using harsh products, especially with amonia in them can etch the glass with spots permanently. 🙁

How to Clean the TV Safely

Since owning my own cleaning business for over 10 years,

I have gotten many questions about how to dust and clean the TV.

Using the wrong product can actually RUIN it!

One of my clients was using Windex and it left streaks etched in the screen :0

So here is:

how to clean the tv

Step 1

~ Brush gently with Swiffer Duster to remove some dust

Step 2

~ Spray Basic H Window cleaner on window cleaning cloth

Step 3

~ Wipe on TV going side to side buffing it as you go.

That’s IT!

The two must-haves, in my opinion is the type of cleaner and cloth you are using.

The wrong one will ruin your tv!  AVOID Windex!!  Amonia is BAD for your TV.

If you have streaked your tv, don’t despair …yet.  After using Basic H a few times, it

actually lessened the streaks dramatically for my client.  Not completely gone, but so

much better that he is able to use the tv again.  Give that a try before you buy a new one.

Before I found Shaklee, I used just water with a VERY expensive window cloth.

Since switching, I have found that this window cloth is SUPER inexpensive and works better.

Also, using a bit of Basic H (only 1 drop diluted in 16oz of water) helps repel the dust to keep the TV cleaner longer.

Happy Cleaning!

10 Reasons to Love Basic H

10 Reasons to LOVE Basic H

1. Stop living in a toxic home

Some of the most questionable chemicals used regularly in household products are ammonia, chlorine bleach, phenol, butyl cellosolve, and formaldehyde—all of which can be found under your kitchen sink. Basic H2 is nontoxic and safe for your family.

2. Everything and the kitchen sink
Basic H2 cleans it all from kitchens and bathrooms to appliances, woodwork, mirrors, painted walls, and floors—it even does windows.  So, toss those single-purpose cleaners like sink and tile cleaners. Mix ¼ teaspoon in 16 oz. of water in a Get Clean spray bottle for all purpose cleaning, and 2 drops in 16 oz. of water to clean windows.

3. Eliminate your ammonia-based window cleaner
Basic H2 cleans windows without streaking while being a great alternative to leading brands. Basic H2 window cleaner is equivalent in performance to Windex® Original.*

4. Removes the impossible
From lipstick on a linen napkin to crayons on a painted wall, full-strength Basic H2 comes to the rescue.

5. Great for cutting grease
Tough on greasy barbecue grills, ovens, and even oil spots on concrete. Mix 2 oz. per gallon of water for a super degreaser formula.

6. Does odd jobs
One tablespoon of Basic H2 in a bucket of hot water lifts off old wallpaper. One and a half teaspoons in a half gallon cleans sticky paintbrushes. Just soak for 24 hours and rinse with hot tap water.

7. Saves money
One 16 oz. bottle of Basic H2 diluted per label directions makes 214 bottles (28 oz.) of ready-to-use all-purpose cleaner.

8. Camping and traveling companion
Take along a small size of Basic H2 to keep clothes, dishes, and everything else clean. And you’ll help by keeping the great outdoors unpolluted.

9. Easy on the planet
Biodegradable and environmentally friendly, Basic H2 handles even hard-to-clean jobs without phosphates, borates, nitrates, or other stuff the planet doesn’t appreciate.

10. Less in the landfill
Basic H2 is super concentrated, so you’ll use fewer bottles of cleaning products throughout the year.
