Livin the Fit Life is sponsoring this amazing young man, Colton, in his fight against Leukemia with a virtual 5K.
My family and I are joining in, too!
Here is Colton’s story and all the details……
Colton’s Army at Light the Night 2012
Many of you have read about our friend Colton who was diagnosed with a rare form of Leukemia in 2009. He is one of the reasons I am so passionate about the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. My other reason is my wonderful sister Claire who survived her own battle with Lymphoma. You can read about her experience here.
Colton is my friend Suzy’s son. His is 12 years old and here is what he has gone through within the past 3 years:
-Diagnosed with hypo-diploid Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (A.L.L.) on 9/11/09
-Bone Marrow Transplant 1/6/10
-Stem Cell Transplant 3/5/11
-One year follow up – shows his body in REMISSION!! 3/22/12
-19 months of remission & cancer strikes for the 3rd time
**Starting chemo on 10/23/12 and preparation for 3rd transplant
We found out last week that the cancer is back for the 3rd time. At this point, all treatments are experimental. Doctors don’t have answers, so they are trying something that hasn’t been tried before. Unfortunately, this means that insurance is sketchy. Insurance doesn’t like experimental anything.
After the thousands of dollars my friends have raised for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, this time they are the ones who need a fundraiser.
So, I am hosting a virtual race, "Colton’s Army Virtual 5k", to raise money for Colton’s Army. Colton’s Army is a group of hundreds, maybe thousands of people who love and support Colton and his family and pray every day for him to be cured. All proceeds will go directly to Colton’s medical fund. Everyone can participate, but, since this is a fundraiser, in order to be eligible for prizes, you need to make a donation of at least $10. For every $5 increment over $10 you will receive an additional entry. After your donation, additional entries can be received by:
*Tweeting about the race (1). This can be done daily.
ex. "Coltons’s Army Virtual 5k" @livinthehikelif help raise money to save Colton’s life! http://livinthefitlife.blogspot.com/2012/10/coltons-army-virtaul-race-cancersucks.html
*Writing a blog post about the race (2)
*Posting about the race on facebook (1)
For those of you who are unable to contribute at this time, please join in on the racing fun and pray, post, tweet, and facebook to your hearts delight . Just because you aren’t eligible for the prizes, doesn’t mean you can’t have fun and help get the word out at the same time. Come back and tell me all about it and send me your pics to post:)
Just as an FYI, orange is the color that represents Leukemia, so if you want to wear orange during your 5k even better!
Here are just a few of the prizes I have gotten so far.
Workplaybags Fleetfeet II running bag
$30 giftcard at Sparkleskirts
Honeystinger chews (4)
Nike running shirt (Size small)
Colton’s Army t-shirt
Mill Creek Hot Yoga gift certificate
Shaklee Performance Drink Mix

I am still working on more prizes!
I hope you all can participate and help raise money for Colton’s medical fund. Colton is an amazing kid and throughout his entire battle, he has remained positive and always has a smile on his face. His strength is amazing and so inspiring:)
After you donate, please email me your amount to firstname.lastname@example.org so I know how many entries you have earned. Also, keep me posted on your tweets/posts/facebook entries. The race goes until October 31st!
Have a great day and happy running!
My family is so excited to help Colton in this way. Let me know in the comments if you are participating too! Be sure to click the link to donate and head over to Livin the Fit Life to let Rachelle know there too.
